Hooray!

First of all, the book Evan is talking about in the first panel is “Ace Face: The Mod with the Metal Arm” by Mike Dawson. I really love Mike’s comics; “Freddie & Me” (a memoir about his childhood obsession with Queen) and his current online work “Troop 142” are easy favorites and are recommended for your reading public. “Troop 142” is really fantastically written - his conversation is effortless and realistic, while being very funny. “Ace Face” is up there with his other work, I’m still in the midst of reading it, but I have throughly enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. The book is a collection of his short stories that are loosely woven together by the “main character” Ace Face. It’s a very funny book and is criminally cheap: I got it at Meltdown comics for six bucks! Pick this up you guys, I love it. Mike and fellow cartoonist Alex Robinson (of “Box Office Poison” and one of my favorite graphic Novels “Too Cool to be Forgotten” fame) also do the hilarious podcast “Ink Panthers,” which is free on iTunes. I’m positive I’ve mentioned that before in the past, but seriously, if you enjoy laughter you should already be listening. Every podcast is golden.

Okay, onto other things.

Are you in need of a birthday gift? An anniversary present? Then you are in luck, I am officially opening commissions! For a small fee, a TRIFLE, I will draw portraits of your friends or family, your favorite characters, your favorite Eros Inc. characters or even YOUR characters. Does that interest you? Send me an email!

I have already done a few commissions for people who have asked, but this is the first time I’m opening them up for real-sies. If you want to see some of my non Eros Inc. art, I urge you to go to my portfolio site and check out my illustrations. I’m sure there is a lot of stuff on there that you probably haven’t seen before.

Alright that’s it! See you guys on Friday for more comics.

We saw Alice in Wonderland on Friday and whoo boy did it stink to high heaven. I’m all for re-imagining, but man was this a wasted opportunity. Sloppy writing, sloppy acting, I can’t believe there were moments where I was bored. There is this awesome flashback sequence in between the second and third act and I thought “YES! This is what the movie should’ve been like!” Also, I was disappointed there was no “caucus race” or “mock turtle and gryphon.” And the 3-D was lame too. At least I saw a Tron: Legacy trailer attached. AT LEAST THAT.

Saturday we went to a party where you had to dress as your favorite cartoon character.

I got a lot of work done on my OTHER comic project. The script is completely thumb-nailed (and I sent off a visual script to my friend Ellen so she could help with a part of the project). I also panelled 17 of the 22 pages and started penciling it. I am so gosh darn excited to share this with you guys, I think you’re really going to enjoy it.

Alright! See you guys on Friday!

I am working on super awesome things! I’ve almost finished thumbnailin’ it (spoiler alert: it is a comic) and I think you guys are really going to like it. It’s really different from what I’ve done, but at the same time it isn’t. Yes, it is bigger than a breadbox.

While I put this comic together, I watched that new show “Parenthood” on NBC. It has at least one actor from every show I ever loved (Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, “Ann” from Arrested Development…) so I wanted to give it a chance. I thought it was a little schmaltzy at times, but overall I liked it. Peter Krause and Lauren Graham totally made the show for me, so I’ll be adding it into my regular rotation.

I also listened to the complete Gorillaz album streaming on NPR and I have to say I was really disappointed. There were a few standout tracks here or there, but overall it didn’t feel like the past albums did. There wasn’t any epic craziness, it felt like a day at the beach. It wasn’t awful, just boring.

Alright! See you on Friday!

Both Nan and I work all day, we have two cats AND our apartment doesn’t allow dogs. That’s three strikes. Someday though.

Some announcements today. I think I’m going to change the update schedule for Eros Inc. from Monday/Wednesday/Friday to just Wednesday/Friday. I have so many other project I want/have to work on and as much as I love Eros Inc., it’s just eating into these other things. I just want to give you guys a good product and I feel it suffering at the current schedule. Hopefully you guys will be okay with this change.

Today is also my brother David’s birthday! WOOO! He is super old now, haHA. He is also a leap year baby, making yesterday (technically) his birthday too. His real birthday is lost in time, awaiting a year where he can show himself. You should totally check out David’s blog “Hot Steaming Gonzo,” where he’s a funny guy and writes funny things, or check out his comedy album (the cover art by me) “Extra Mayo.” CAUTION: Link takes you to iTunes but also hilarity. I also provide a voice on the track (”Swallow my Fingers”) as the father. Happy birthday David!

This weekend was pretty solid. We went to Gallery Nucleus’ opening of “Curiouser & Curiouser,” art influenced by Alice in Wonderland. Some really beautiful stuff. I also purchased a print by Man Arenas (from his Totoro Forest Project submission) that I really love and is putting me in the mood for other projects.

I actually had a similar answering machine when I was in high school. The best message I ever received was a wrong number, who heard the message (that went on for MINUTES like that) and ended with a pause, then “stupid ass answering machine.” I kept that message for years.

I have recently opened an awesome new portfolio site where you can find all my comics and illustrations! All of my mini comics are up there (and if you want a physical copy, please check out my store), along with some of my sketches and so forth, some I seriously doubt you guys have checked out. So please go over to the site and peruse to your deepest pleasure.

Also on the site I am offering myself for hire - commissions are opened! Details are on the site.

I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend and we’ll meet back, right here, come Monday. Now if you excuse me, I have to sleep the cold off. Or do I starve it. Damn you 8th grade Health class!

Not with those fists.
Small changes are coming that I’m VERY excited about. VERY. You may have already noticed it. I’m working on a comic to better explain the change.

I had a pretty cool weekend. On Saturday, on a complete WHIM, we went to the Long Beach Comic Con, we being myself, Nan, and our friends Joe and Torlin. It was nifty! We met Stan Sakai (and got pictures slash drawings from him) and Mike Mignola (just sketches). I also picked up an issue of Joss Whedon’s Runaways (the only one I was missing) and extremely cheap collections of Ultimate Spiderman and Iron Fist. It was a great time!

Then that night we watched a movie called “Outlander” starring Jim Cavezial where he plays, and I’m not making this up, he plays an astronaut who accidentally lands in Viking times and saves a town from a dragon, which turns out to be an alien. Yes. I watched this movie with my eyes.

Sunday was a little more low-key, drawing and writing then dinner with friends Monica and Michael. All in all it was great.

Okey dokes folks I’ll see you guys on Wednesday.
